Accounting Clearing Clerk

Reporting to the Accounting Officer, the Accounting Clearing Clerk is responsible for processing 

the daily clearing and making the appropriate entries to the general ledger, customer-owner 

accounts and credit union accounts. The incumbent also provides accounting and administrative 

support to the general accounting function of the credit union.  

 

Specific Accountabilities: 

Performs daily clearing functions including: 

  • Processing the various entries and balancing and reconciling accounts from the daily clearing. 
  • Identifying the items which have been rejected and posting accordingly 
  • Posting charges from manual clearings  
  • Processing NSF and chargeback transactions 
  • Making the appropriate G.L. entries as indicated by the type of transaction 
  • Make e-transfer report to balance the 14-1 Account

Performs Accounting Services: 

  • Prepare and Post League Data Billing, as well as Atlantic Central Billing, CUMIS, GWL/Canadian Life, Concentra, CEBA  
  • Sorts courier items and distributes 
  • Distributes reports – Overdraft, Charge Backs 
  • Post Share file postings 
  • Prepare online BPS 
  • Prepare invoices, petty cash & expenses 
  • Prepare and post Overdrafts 
  • Consult with the branch staff as required 
  • Reconcile a variety of accounts including: FI Internal, non posted US Items, e-transfer, clearing holding 

 Performs Risk & Compliance Duties 

  • Pull reports from VERAFIN 
  • Processing of all reportable transactions on the VERAFIN system 
  • Audit the large cash transactions 
  • Audit large wire transactions 
  • Audit alerts and actions 
  • Complete audit and submit report  
  • Adhere strictly to Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (AMLTF) compliance 
  • Provides administrative support including answering the telephone, typing correspondence, checking reports and other documents; sending out transaction records and other mailings; and other general office administration.    
  • Assists and backs-up other members of the accounting team  
  • Completes other duties and projects as assigned.  

 Qualifications: 

The Accounting Clerk will have successfully completed a certificate in Accounting
Plus have one to three years related experience and/or training in an accounting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
